This weekend saw another visit to the river Inny at Ballymahon near Longford. After a very late session on the Friday we didn't get on the river until 1pm. We were joined by the Tullamore canoe club in their Canadians and two other paddlers Patrick and Shane.
On the second run some of us swapped boats with Tullamore and Rachel and Conor enjoyed getting some air on at the Meat Hole wave. Saturday night we celebrated Frank's 40th which meant that only Linda, Catriona, Mary, June and Paul were fit to paddle again on the Sunday.
50th Liffey Descent - 5 Sep 2009
Congratulations to the I.C.U. for reaching this epic anniversary, it never disappoints! Well done to Liffey virgins John McFadden, Eugene Gracey and Una Sweeney (Gweebarra CC).
Touring Canadian doubles partnerships of Andy Harron and Michael Roulston, Andrew Harron and Conor Kelly,
Johnny Mitchell and Mary Young, Declan Emery and Denis Gallagher, Noel Canavan and Tommy Marron and finally Roger Norris and Sinead Coyle all did it for pure fun.
In the General Purpose class Cathal Herron said, "I could have won the whole thing had he not been held up by the over enthusiastic rescue crew at Lucan."
Also in the General Purpose class was Roisin Kerr, who has probably completed more Liffey's than anyone else in the club. Catriona Woods who blammed Davey Leonard for smashing into her even though she'd stopped in the fast lane. Niall Doran and Patrick Woods both had good runs but the highest achievment goes to Edward Broekaart for coming third for the second year in a row.

Frank Roche celebrates his 40th birthday this November. As our club treasurer, some say that Frank is like Fort Knox, everyone knows there's money there, but nobody can ever get at it! A great ambassador for the club and as our proxy spokeperson he has made some memorable speeches too! Franks other sporting activities are running, biking and swimming in Triathlons. Frank lives in Letterkenny with his fiancée Mary, who he met when she joined the club. They are to be married next March. Happy Birthday Frank from the DCC.
DCC Challenge Cup
The Donegal Canoe Club Challenge Cup (DC4) league starts with the Castlefin Race and ends with the CANI Mourne race in December. We record DCC members results in any official competition and use a points system that allows for any man, woman, boy or girl to win. Last years winner was 14 year old Dean Harron. The DC4 trophy and 2nd and 3rd place plaques will be presented at the Christmas Paddle.

BoaterX
Boater Cross is an exciting mix of white water, racing and pure fun. Events can only take place where there is a reliable white water but Foyle Paddlers Canoe Club organised a dam release to put on this challenging race. Look out for our own Patrick Woods at 3.08 practicing his draw stroke!
